At Ian Stewart Maths Tutoring, we want to make sure students and parents have all the information they need. Below are answers to some of the most common questions we receive.

Are lessons online or in person?

All lessons are conducted online, allowing flexibility and access to high-quality tutoring no matter where you are in Scotland.

How do I join a lesson

A link will be sent out 5 mins before the lesson starts. Make sure you join on a laptop or tablet with a big screen and a camera. You many have to wait to be added to the room but just hold tight I might be getting a glass of juice!

Do you offer discounts for block bookings?

At the moment, all lessons are charged per session, but we may introduce discounted packages in the future. Feel free to message us and we can always work something out

How do I pay for lessons?

Payments must be made in advance via bank transfer, Details will be provided upon booking.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations may be charged at the full lesson rate unless due to an emergency.

What if there are no available slots?

If we are fully booked, we can add you to our waiting list, and we’ll contact you as soon as a suitable time becomes available

What happens during a typical lesson?

Each lesson is tailored to the student’s needs. We usually start with a quick review of previous material, then focus on specific topics or problem areas. Lessons include step-by-step explanations, worked examples, and time for students to practice independently with guidance.

Do you provide homework?

Yes, optional homework can be assigned to reinforce learning between lessons. We tailor this based on the student’s needs and upcoming exams

Can parents get updates on progress?

Absolutely! We’re happy to provide regular updates on progress and areas for improvement.

What happens if my child misses a lesson?

If a student does not attend their scheduled session without prior notice, the full lesson fee still applies. We always try to offer an alternative slot if notice is given.

How do you ensure lessons match what students are learning in school?

All lessons are aligned with the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) and SQA standards. We also work closely with the student’s school syllabus to ensure consistency and reinforce what they’re learning in class.

Do you tutor subjects other than maths and physics?

We specialize in maths, physics, and engineering science, but we can recommend trusted tutors for other subjects like English, History, and even Chess! Please note these tutors are independent and not directly associated with our company
